 area. The board consists of 12 trustees and 1 student trustee elected every year. The area in which this school board operates covers 37,000 km² of Ontario. The CÉPEO employs more than 1000 employees, the majority being teachers.

The board was created January 1, 2006, when the Government of Ontario decided to create 12 French school boards across Ontario
