The church was founded in the 14th century by Margrave of Moravia John Henry

, originally as part of an Augustinian monastery. Its current baroque appearance dates back to the 17th century. There is a tomb in the church which is the final resting place of its founder John Henry of Luxembourg and his son German King Jobst of Moravia
