Betty T. Yee

Betty T. Yee （余淑婷）is a member of the California Board of Equalization
.
A native of San Francisco's Parkside district, Yee's parents hailed from the Canton region of China from which they immigrated in 1956. She worked in her family's neighborhood business (laundry and dry cleaning) while growing up. Originally speaking no English she spent her grade school years in the San Francisco Unified School District before attending UC Berkley
as an undergraduate, attaining a Bachelors degree in Sociology. She went on to attend Golden Gate University
from which she earned a Masters degree in Public Administration.
Yee was Governor Gray Davis'
Chief Deputy director for budget before becoming Board of Equalization's member Carole Migden's
Chief Deputy. She was appointed to fill the seat when Migden vacated it.
Yee was elected in her own right to the California Board of Equalization in 2006 from the 1st Board District and won re-election in 2010.
Betty Yee currently serves on the State Board of Directors as Secretary for California Women Lead, a women's nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.
