Encyclopedia
Akanes is a Greek sweet similar to loukoumi, only that it is flavoured with fresh butter rather than fruit essences. It is made exclusively in the town of Serres
Serres

in Northern Greece. The origin of the name "akanes" dates back to the period of the Turkish occupation of Greece, when the local Turkish governors would tell the Greeks preparing the sweet "aka", which means "stir" in Turkish and they would reply in Greek "ne", which means "yes". The sweet is available in the prefecture of Serres and in delicacy shops throughout Greece.
