"supercavitation" in air

Instead of a situation of supercavitation in a liquid (such as water) in which a vapor/gas pocket is created around an underwater supercavitating projectile (or submarine, or torpedo, etc.), would it be possible to create a "supercavitating" pocket around a rocket in air - the pocket would be basically a vacuum, in which a supercavitating rocket would experience little to no air-resistance in it's flight? -interesting idea, wonder who else has thought upon it?
