I am doing a genialogy of our family history. In my mothers trunk, i found many letters from my grandfather to her. He talked about the mines and a resturant that every used to eat at from time to time. Also many stories about men working in the mines and what they did for recreation. Is there any local history books or records of people that lived and worked there? I would like to hear from any one who has any record of Simon Jose Hijar. he worked in a resurant as a cook for many years, about 15 to 20 years. According to the letters he was well known.
He was born in watsonville in 1866. Where would any vital statistics be recorded at that time?
