The WWII hospital ship CENTAUR, sunk in May 1943, has been variously described as Australian and British; reputable sources indicate the Australian government operated no hospital ships in WWII; the Royal Navy operated some 42 hospital ships, possibly HMS, or possibly RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary); the designation AHS (Australian Hospital Ship) can also be found;
Was CENTAUR a British or an Australian ship, and what was its correct designation?
