Generally built out of locally available materials, In the east, homes from the large trees that grew there, In the plains of Kansas etc they made sod houses out of blocks of sod cut from the soil. In the southwest the houses were constructed of adobe which was made by mixing adobe dirt with water, putting the mud in forms made longer than wide and then let dry in the hot desert sun, these were stacked together to make walls. Poles and smaller sticks were used on the roofs.
