Years ago in the 80's or 90's, I was given a gift of a Neiman Marcus labeled hat that was "supposed" to be real ocelot fur, trimmed in leather. I never had the courage to wear it, and put it away.
Recently I found it in perfect shape, and realized how special it is. But I do not believe it is real ocelot. It is definitely a fur/skin of some sort, feels like shorter colt/pony/horse hair, very smooth and soft with a soft, dense undercoat. It does not appear to have been sheared.
Could it be printed ocelot pattern on pony?
When did Neiman's carry it in Dallas?
What kind of fur is it?
