The definition I read on this site pertaining to woodsmen in my opinion is not correct. I am a woodsman, I have been a woodsman for 50 years or more. A woodsman knows woodslore, he/she is familier with the forest. They often live in the forest as I do and spend a good deal of time in the forest. Some of us are foresters, hunters, trappers. We are skilled in survival, primitive skills.
What we are not is woodcutters which is what the definition in this book describes. We cut wood for our own use, but we do not make a living from it. We do not throw double headed axes, we carry and throw hatchets or tomahawks with a single cutting edge of no more than 4 inches as a general rule.
A lot of us graybeards still carry and use a flintlock and of course we carry a hunting knife.
Regards, Le Loup.

I am a woodsman, not a college professor. Any chance of you saying that again in plain English?
With respect & regards, Le loup.
