Like Afghanistan is spelled so wierdly when I was in school i tried to spell it but I spelled it wrong, than i got yelled at for not spelling it right

I guess it is to try to give us the true sound of the name :

"Afganistan" would make the "g" too hard , so an "H" is introduced to show that the G is softer - it is almost a Blow or a breath through an open throat , rather than hard G which closes the throat.

Almost "Aff-Hanistan" an H but no G sound

haha - what do you think of THAT explanation !?
