When you are drawing unemployment and you have taxes taken out on your checks, can you still claim a dependent even if you have not worked any at all the year before. I have been told that unemployment is unearned income and when you work it is earned income. The question I am asking is can you claim a dependent on your taxes if you have only drawed unemployment and not worked at a job during the previous year on your taxes?
