There are many things unbelievable about marathon. Like how the men charged the persians for a mile wearing heavy battle armor. Also the fact that one hung on to the ship with his arm 'till it got chopped off.

I don't think that's true. I do know that it was in 490 BC ordered by King Darius I after the Atheniens led the Ionian Revolt.

1)Do you know of the 'Palaistra'?Athenians spent a considerable part of the day there engaging in Olympic Games sports;the same was done in every Greek City-State.Running in full armour was very common(among citizens)
and no army could overlook that since a hoplite, when victorious, was to run in persuit(albeit a short one) of a defeated enemy who suffered most of his losses at that stage of the battle.
2) You refer to the incident of Kynaigyrus who tried to stop a Persian ship with his hand;it is absolutely true since the man who witnessed and subsequently recorded the incident was no other than Kynaigyrus'brother, the great tragic poet and playright Aeschylus who was fighting alongside his brother and the others of their tribal brigade.
