The Battle of Midway was fought on June 4-7, 1942. The combat ended on the 6th but some historians see the sinking of the American aircraft carrier "Yorktown" on the 7th as the battle's end. It was fought in the Pacific Ocean between forces of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the United States both on land with an attack by IJN aircraft on Midway atoll & at sea with attacks by the fleets on each other. The Japanese suffered a complete defeat as a result of the Americans sinking all 4 of the IJN aircraft carriers involved. The Americans lost 1 carrier, "Yorktown." The Japanese were forced to retreat & Midway was not threatened again during the war. There's some debate as to whether this battle was the turning point of the Pacific War. I personally believe it turned the tide. Admiral Nimitz the American Commander of the Pacific Fleet called it, "The beginning of the beginning of the end."
I hope this helps.
