Gaius Octavian was Caesars great nephew. He was adopted by caeasr posthoumously and made caears heir.Because of his extreme youth Octavian had a difficult time of it for several years. He entered in the triumpherette with antonius and lepidus and bore the burden of ruling rome and italy while antonius caroused with cleopatra in egypt and lepidus lived the high life in africa provance.

With the aid of Aggripa Octavian reconqued Sicaly from Pompeys pirates and put rome on a firm financial footing. This victory also freed romese grain shipments so that famine would not visit the city again.

Eventually Octavian defeated anthony and cleopatra at the battle of Actium, mostly a naval battle generaled by Aggripa and invaded egypt. The wealth of egypt and its grain production ensured romes unrivaled place in the world.

Eventually Octavian took the title Augustus and was the first emporer of rome. He was married to Livia a claudian aristocrate with the unpleasent habit of murdering anyone who stood in the way of her son Tiberius succeeding Augustus on the throne.

Augustus died at an advanced age, most historians accept that Livia poisioned the figs he loved to eat to help him on his way.

He was deified, made a god by the senate after his death.
