My memories from writing for the Barb 1969-1972 [as well as KPFA Free Radio] is that we were free to write openly about anything and everything. Most media is governed by advertising dollars. The news that came off the UPI Machine was 'slanted' by the individual media recipients to match the views/goals or propaganda of the majority advertiser or Big Money owner. This system was successfully circumvented by 'The Berkely Barb' as well as non-profit KPFA Pacifica Radio in Oakland, Ca.
