A simple explanation:
1.you want to understand WHY something happens the way it happens.
2.you gather facts, you think about your experiences in the area, you study.
3.you make the best guess you can make.
4.now comes the hard part. You have to figure a way to test your guess.
Your test must be repeatable by others.
999 times out of a thousand your test shows your best guess was wrong.
Don't give up. A wrong guess is a truth as much as any. It helps others not to waste their time down the same blind alley.
outside of Clinical, psychology isn't much of a science.
