There is really no rationale behind that battle. The battle was unnecessary and did nothing
to help the exploration to the Spice Islands that Magellan originally agreed on with the
King of Spain. His job was to find the passage through the "New World" then sail to the
Spice Islands and not to convert any natives or fight them. Magellan's pride got to him and
he was becoming irrational. If Magellan just got provisions from the Cebuans and chief
Humabon then started to sail south out of the Philippines he might have made it back
home and the other crew members too.
When it comes to Lapu Lapu, he just won the battle from Magellan's foolishness. If a
battle really was needed, Magellan should have had Humabon's and chief Sula's
warriors join the fight and with the superiority of the spanish weapontry and attacking
at high tide Lapu Lapu would have been defeated easily. If this guy was so great why
hasn't there been any information about him after this battle.
