Touch originates from nerves in the skin that perceive sensations of pressure. Olfactory receptor neurons in the nose die and regenerate on a regular basis. Receptors in the tongue are responsible for taste. A complex set of bones and membranes in the ear measures sounds as vibrations in the air.
