Poverty is one of the major themes of Oliver Twist as Dickens describes the plight of the poor in detail throughout the novel.

There's a theme of the importance of love and kindness running through this novel as well. Oliver often seems to have the worst luck but he's spared over and over by the kindness of strangers.
