World War I and World War II should be thought of a one war. The Treaty of Versailles (which ended the war) created enormous resentment amongst the defeated powers that laid the groundwork for a resumption of fighting. Had the allies (the French in particular) been more hospitable, WWII likely would never have happened. Instead they reneged on the initial terms and were took a more punitive posture.

I absolutely agree. It is estimated that over 400,000 Germans died of starvation during the blockade of Germany following the end of the war. The Germans refused to capitulate after the allies reneged on the initial treaty. This laid the groundwork for another war.

Hitler would never have risen to power without this and other outrages committed by the Allies after the war ended

Right, a ceasefire which unfortunately allowed both sides to dramatically improve their weapons technology - creating a much bloodier continuation in the fighting

The end of WWI was one of the worst acts of diplomacy in world history. The consequences could not have been worse
