I have a canvas air mail bag with a letter inside that is dated Sept 2 1930. The bag measures approx 6"x3" with a 5' orange or gold ( depends on your color preception) flag on the end of it. It is stamped "official business penalty for private use to avoid payment of postage $300.00. U.S. Air Corps Troops" The letter inside dated Sept 2 1930 is from a Captain William E Lynd to a J W Farson in Payette Id. Would anyone be interested in purchasing this article from me?

You had asked:

"Would anyone be interested in purchasing this article from me?"

And yet you had reported:

"It is stamped "official business penalty for private use to avoid payment of postage $300.00. U.S. Air Corps Troops"

I believe it would be prudent to send that letter on its way to J W Farson in Payette Id. even if it is too late, just to avoid any penalty on your part for private use.

I doubt anyone is going to be interested in an article that could have some hidden penalty still. It is not worth it.

Mr Farson was my great grandfather. He had already recieved the letter. I do not know how he came into pocession of the mail bag, but I thank you for the responce and advise. No penalties apply unless you try to mail something in it to avoid postal fees, I think. The bag is the interesting part. The letter just verifies the age or nearly the age of the bag. Again thank you.
