I have a 1.8l kia spectra dohc motor. the timing belt borke off about 8 inches of teeth. i have been working on this for a couple weeks getting info from other locations. one guy says to use a feeler gauge to check the valves for clearance. if the lash is more than .030" between the valve tips and the roker arms they are bent or otherwise dammaged. on the front row the cam shaft is at 90degrees clockwise from tdc which should have put the pistons in center of cylinder wall. there are 4 valves that do not rotate up and down like the others do they are either stuck or bent. my question is have i done everything correct and do i indeed have 4 bent valves. please any help and advice is appreciated.

This is the exach post from which i am taking the measurements from. remember this following post was not from me but another online forum mechanic giving advice.

""The Kia 1.8L DOHC is an interference engine! Chances are that you may have a bent valve or two! the easiest way to check for bent valves is (you already have the valve cover off too) SLOWLY Turn the crankshaft to TDC (top dead center) mark in lined up, now turn the crank an additional 90 degrees (this will put the pistons in the middle of the cylinders) making it safe to rotate the Camshaft (preventing the possibility of the valves contacting the pistons) now rotate the camshaft until the camshaft lobe is off of the rocker, now using a .030" feeler gauge or something of similar thickness check the amount of lash in between the valve tip and the rocker arm if the tool can be inserted without forcing it you have a bent valve! Normally the exhaust valves are the ones that bend! ADDED: Checking the engine compression is not a valid test to check for incorrect timing because if the valve timing is off the compression can actually be higher!""
