Italian Campaign (World War II)

This may be much to vague of a question but ill give it a shot. My grandfather was in the Italian air force, not under Mussolini. My father told me a story about his father’s air base being overrun by German paratroopers. They executed the Italians they captured or at least some of them because my grandfather was shot, and eventually survived.
This happened some time in 1943 I think, and my father remembers him saying it was out side of Rome possibly near a town called Monterotondo. I now he was responsible for organizing shipment on transport planes during the war. I’m trying to find that airfield, or info about that skirmish. I know this is a big question with not much info, but if anyone could point me in the right direction It would be greatly appreciated.
