I need help identifying some growth on the tips of a couple thermocouples. I have a Type C thermocouple (Sealed with Argon) that failed at high temps. I disassembled and noticed fuzzy whiskers at the bead junction. Any idea what this is and what caused it? Another t/c was a type R exposed bead type in a high temp argon stream that became encrusted with a similar type of growth. Again, any ideas?
