There was a famous quote attributed to Publius Clodius Thrasea Paetus? Does anyone remember it or have access to a book of Latin quotations?

Probably 'Qui vitia odit, homines odit', 'hate [moral] failings and you hate people', or more literally 'the one who hates vices hates human beings'. Attributed to Thrasea by the younger Pliny, who knew many of his friends and family, in Letters 8.22. Thrasea was known for his uprightness, especially shown in his courageous opposition to Nero; Pliny uses the quotation to show that he was not a stern and unbending moralist, but reasonable and humane.
