This isn't actually an active verb at all. It has only very recently been pressed into service, and therefore is not suitable for use in grammatical examples, because it has no clear historical usage. The verb that should be used is 'to swop.' a good old English verb. The direct object is what is swopped, then you need what it was swopped for and then with whom, although all three are almost never used in the same sentence. Both swop and trade are colloquial only, and for the full transaction to become clear require two sentences for correct syntax.
ex "Yea, I traded it for a bike."or "I did a good trade with Tom and got this bike."
Which latter of course puts it back as a noun. It is much happier as a noun!
