My name is Phil Latter. I live in Canada. I've been collecting & enjoying Marvel Comics for over 40 years. I'm a huge fan of the previous Marvel Star Lord. In the new Guardians Of The Galaxy title (current issue is # 16), I am extremely disappointed in what's become of this character, originally created (1st appearance0 being in the black & white magazine sized comic Marvel Preview # 4, in the mid 1970's.
In Marvel Star Lord stories, the character eventually went missing, and years later, a new Star Lord, with no powers, named Syngen, in a duplicate of the original Star Lord's costume and helmet, in a mini series a few years ago, went looking for the original Star Lord, alias Peter Jason Quill. But he never did find him. Then, years later, Guardians of The Galaxy # 1 (current series) came out. Peter Jason Quill was back with no explanation of where he'd been. Boringly, he had somehow lost his powers and abandoned his really cool costume. I'd loved the original helmet, too! And miss both!
Now, he has no powers, an incredibly ugly outfit and grotesque helmet, which to me makes him look like a Nazi SS storm trooper, complete with shoes and World War One era-looking socks and short pants. This makes the ugly outfit look incredibly dated. The original version of this outfit was blue and gold. The gold parts were eventually replaced with red, making the new ugly outfit and helmet EVEN UGLIER! Oddly, with no powers, he is still called STAR LORD, which is extremely absurd. Why would a non-powered, gun toting boring human be called STAR LORD, still? I have no idea, but it's like a stupid joke. Moreover, this non powered human in this ugly outfit and helmet is now the LEADER of this superpowered group, and he is the most ineffectual of all of them! Even the raccoon, "Rocket Raccoon" by name, is more interesting than the travesty that has been made of the formerly super cool STAR LORD! EG: he was cool before Guardians Of The Galaxy # 1, current series!
I wish Marvel would return STAR LORD to glory, repowered in his original cool outfit and the original headpiece and helmet! Else, they should kill him off completely!
I only buy GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY for STAR LORD, hoping Marvel will eventually smarten the hell up and return Peter Quill, STAR LORD, to glory, as he used to be! But deep down, I know it will never happen!
This current version incredibly sucks! Just as bad, this new incarnation of Peter Jason Quill/-STAR LORD (talk about badly misnamed, the way he is now) --- never stops whining!
