The Wind Cries Mary By Jimi Hendrix
After all the jacks are in their boxes
and the clowns have all gone to bed (These represent the dead who have not the ears to hear or the eyes to see the good news)
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footsteps dressed in red (This exemplifies both the joy and the grief that God will experience in his plan to bring about the sacrifice of his son for our sins)
And the wind whispers Mary (This signifies that he has given this secret message to Mary who will bear his son)
A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterdays life (This is a reminder of how God has always been working hard at the task of cleaning up after man’s rebellion)
Somewhere a queen is weeping (This signifies the broken heart of Mary who witnessed the crucifiction of her son.
Somewhere a king has no wife. (This signifies that Christ (The Word) has always existed and was not created. Gospel of John chapter 1,verse 1)
And the wind, it cries Mary (This gives dept to the angst that God has for the world to be reconciled to himself)
The traffic lights, they turn, uh, blue tomorrow
and shine their emptiness down on my bed (These words express the emptiness of life without God)
The tiny island sags down stream
'cause the life that lived is,
is dead (These words continue the theme of insignificance and hopelessness on the tiny island (Earth) in the vastness of space)
And the wind screams Mary (Here we hear God loudly proclaiming his will to save us all)
Uh-will the wind ever remember
the names it has blown in the past? (These names signify the prophets of old who were called to proclaim the will of God)
And with this crutch, it’s old age, and its wisdom
it whispers no, this will be the last (This completes the end in a line of prophetic callings, which ends in the Son. Hebrews chapter 1, v verse 1
