THE ESSAY OF MARK TWAIN ABOUT THE JEWS

"If the statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of star dust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way.

Properly the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk.

His contributions to the world's list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also way out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers.

He has made a marvellous fight in the world, in all the ages; and has done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it.

The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed suit, and made a vast noise, and they are gone. Other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it has burned out, and they sit either in twilight now, or have vanished.

The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?

It is interesting to note how the Jews remain throughout history like a river flowing through time. The ancient roots continue to influence and to remain a testimony to the reality of a people who have existed through the millennia. This speaks volumes to the fact that they carried a message of hope to the ancient world when God was preparing them as a nation of priests to utter forth his oracles to all mankind. Is there a reason why they continue? Is there a determined state of affairs that insures their continuance? Or are they simply a testimony of how much influence God himself has had on history that His mark of testimony continues to carry its influence throughout time. His influence as almighty God making an indelible mark throughout time, and this continues to show itself in the form of an ancient tribe, called Israel.

That ancient Tribe called Israel was composed of 12 Tribes. Ten, after secession, ten Tribes formed the kingdom of the North, while two remained loyal to David, under the common name of Judah; aka the Jewish People. As the Ten Tribes of the North got lost for good under the power of Assyria, Judah, after 130 years, was exiled for 70 years to Babylon. At the return of the Jews, according to Ezekiel 37:22, the Jewish People was organized as one People, aka one nation till this very day. And, as long as we remain as a people before the Lord, we will be seen as a river flowing through endless time. (Jer. 31:35-37)
