In todays terms Jamie Anderson would have been a super star and his family a dynasty. Today Tiger Woods Makes Millions and will most likely die a very rich man. Jamie Anderson won three championships but he died in a pore house and his grave has no markings.

His family, Father David old da Anderson was part designer old course Saint Andrews he was a green keeper and caddie and the forth hole is still named after his ginger beer stand,

His brother David Anderson was the founder of D.Anderson & sons golf ball and golf club makers.
All of jamie's sons were involved in golf as club makers and golf pro's his son John Died in the US as a golf pro another son David Died in Perth West Australia also a golf pro and course designer.
His brother David had five sons and a daughter that worked for him as golf club makers and book keepers his son David was runner up in the open in 1888 and his son Walter was the holder of the Saint Andrews medal in golf there are still members of the family involved in golf today Bryan Anderson was managing the Tom Morris golf shop in Saint Andrews up until a couple of years ago, there are family members from David's Daughter MARGARET in New Zealand One is a green keeper and one now living is the US who has just written a book on how to run golf tournaments and I have just uncovered a death certificate to show that old da's grandfather was described as a green keeper on one of his sons death certificates despite being involved in golf and having a great deal of success in golf the family gets very little recognition of its history in Saint Andrews, 210 years in golf come down to not having the money to promote yourself, the only people you hear about is Saint Andrews is Tom Morris and his son young Tom. so it was a little ironic to find an Anderson running the Tommy Morris Golf shop in Saint Andrews posted by David Anderson son of Braid Anderson who is the son of William Anderson who was the son of James Anderson (Golf club Maker) who was the son of David Anderson (founder of D.Anderson & Sons) who was the son of Old Da Anderson (Designer old course ,Green keeper, Caddie, Ginger beer stand owner)he was father of James(Jamie) Anderson three times british golf open champion.and father of James Anderson partner in Anderson & Gourley club Makers.

Hi
I recently found a ladies Putting Cleek which was made by Tom Stewart but had the name J H ANDERSON on it, together with BIARRITZ and of course the clay pipe symbol.
I am selling the club on eBay but could find no-one with the name (or rather the initials) J H.
Does anyone have any idea who this club was made for - I presume that it was the name of a person rather than a manufacturer - I can find J ANDERSON but not J H

Hi,
I am very interested in your note about the Andersons. I am working on a book on the St Andrews during the Old Tom era and really am very keen to get the real story out there. I would be interested to hear of any research you have that helps give a clearer picture of what life for the Andersons was really like. I should also have a few items that might help your own research.
Best,
Roger

The Anderson's ended up being a large family during and after David Ault da Anderson his father was the black sheep of the family ending up in Australia for passing fake coin and dying a horrible death there, The most disturbing thing I find about the family is James Jamie Anderson dying of a stroke in a poorhouse and put in an unmarked family grave site with his parents and his infant son I would like to hear about what you may have I know that ault da took over from Tom Morris as green keeper old Course I think the Families must have been quite close as ault da's grandson David took over the running of the Tom Morris golf shop this is the same David who was runner up in British open 1888 and his son was named Morris Anderson who also ran shop then morris had two sons there Michel and Bryan Anderson who also ran shop I am descended from James Anderson who was also one of the sons working for D. Anderson & Sons the golf club makers he married a Catherine Braid if you like I can be contacted at davidanderson66@live.com
