So, why are hardwood trees and forests harmful to the red cockaded woodpecker?

Is this little bird the reason people are destroying beautiful and useful hardwood trees?

If this bird 'prefers' pine, I think it should have to deal with the hardwoods and get over itself!

And NO, pine stands are not as pretty as hardwoods in Autumn or Spring!!
