The snort mast is 30ft app long,its an outer caseing large tube with two other tubes inside one for exhaust fumes and the other for air intake to the diesel engines. What I cant work out is the snort mast was severd and cut through three feet up from the subs caseing, also the other two pipes inside the larger caseing were also severd and cut through so thats three tubes,the main outer and two inner pipes cut through.This seems in my opinion to have been sabotage and possibly carried out at Portsmouth, if the two inner pipes were cut with a pipe cutter and then put back into the outer casing this would put extreme pressure on the main outer cover.Dont forget there was the cold war at that time and the Navy was also useing contract outside workmen.It seems the reason for not bringing the boat up was there would have been to many law suits to settle.
