Should Minimum Wage be Increased?

If minimum wage is increased then so must the cost of goods be increased to accommodate the increase in wages.
For instance in 1950 in the United States of America a loaf of bread cost 15 cent and the hourly wage was 75 cent.
Now the hourly wage is $8.25 or 825 cent by way of minimum wage increases, however a loaf of bread is $2.00 or 200 hundred cent.
There is no gain in buying power. Why anyone would expect there to be is a mystery to me.
To me it is a political ploy to gain popularity in elections.
The best way to increase your living standard is to gain in knowledge and or skill.
