RE: Rev. Arnold Spencer-Smith.
I am currently writing a book on the ‘Mt Hope Returning Party”, from Shackleton’s 1914-17 Antarctic Expedition of which the Reverend A.P Spencer-Smith was a member.
The book is focusing exclusively on the six people of that party; that is Spencer-Smith plus Ernest Wild, Ernest Joyce, Aeneas Mackintosh, Richard Richards and Victor Hayward.
I have transcripts of Spencer-Smith’s diaries from the SPRI in Cambridge and from New Zealand but I can find very little background on him – his early life, any letters he may have written whilst on the trip in 1914-17.
Can anyone help me in any way?
Regards
