Predestination only applies to his elect's destination, and not their life as they live here on earth. God allows them to have a free will to make choices good or bad while they sojourn here in this world. Joshua said chose you this day whom ye shall serve. in Deut 30:19, I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. This is a choice he offers us as we live here in this world to recieve his blessings and not eternal life. It is man's choice to obey God or not to obey God. Man makes choices of his own will every day and I am sad to say a lot of them are the wrong choices. There is a way that seemeth right unto man but the end thereof are the ways of death (a seperation from God's fellowship). Eph 1:5, Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. The adoption took place on the cross.
