On a worldwide basis the number of people who might be called "peasants" made up a majority of the population at least thru the 1970s. Of course the number of peasants has been declining since the end of the middle ages and I am wondering whether or not this absolute majority is no longer true today. Does anyone have the numbers of peasants worldwide periodically thru history?
