Custodian helmet

On a recent TV programme footage was shown of the bombing of Dublin by the Germans in WWll. In the foreground was a policeman wearing a custodian helmet. I always thought the helmet was taken out of use when the DMP was amalgamated with the national police in the 1920's. Was this so.

A British crime film made in the late 1940's, with John Mills as the star, was located in Belfast. The police in the film, UDC, wore unusual helmets based on the custodian model but with extended rims and no plate.Did such a helmet ever exist or was it just a prop department idea.

What was the last Scottish force to use the helmet.
