Ok, so Im doing some research on the big boys and Im looking to find some hard facts.

1. what were the operating costs per mile of a 4000?

2. what did it cost to fuel / water the tender during any given stop

3. given 1 and 2, what would that translate to in current dollars.

4. its been speculated that of the 8 remaining locomotives, the 4018 was the last to be shopped and could, in theory, be the closest to operating with the least amount of rebuild by comparison to the others.

my question is, what would be a realistic rebuild cost and what would be a shop in the U.S. that could do it??
