My Mother told me, that, her uncle Andrew made contact with Caskie, only to be turned away, when Caskie found out that Andrew had no money. This apparently happened regularly, whenever the soldiers had no money to pay him.
Andrew was very lucky and was taken in by the Bournville family (Thee actual Chocolate family). Who, in turn, managed to get him to Spain.
I met Andrew a few times as a child. Andrew lived in Leeds toward the end of his days and would turn-up on our doorstep unannounced on the odd occasions Christmas mainly.
