In a telephone interview with the Voice of Germany‘s (Deutsche Welle, DW) Chinese service, Arnulf Kolstad, a Norwegian professor for psychology, confirmed that he had given an interview to Xinhua about this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, and that the views he voiced in the interview were nothing special. He also said that he had not issued a statement accusing Xinhua of fabrication afterwards, and was not aware of news about such a statement.

After the Norwegian Nobel Committee granted this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo, a convicted criminal of agitation aimed at subverting the government who was sentenced to 11 years in jail in late 2009, Professor Arnulf Kolstad of Norwegian University of Science and Technology said this was a wrong decision when he received interview from Xinhua, the biggest Chinese new agency. However, a rumor came out from a post that the professor made a statement in Oslo claiming Liu Xiaobo Xinhua report quoting him is "pure fabrication”. He denied the accusation, saying, “I have never published the so-called statement. I stand by everything I say, I did not withdraw anything I said. The statement online is not correct and is pure rumor."
