No doubt there were slaves in what is now known as Rockdale County, Georgia. Being a history buff, I am interested in locating pertinent information. I have uncovered a picture of a Slave Commissary in Conyers, and have seen a photograph of an elderly woman whom I assume was a slave here in the early days. Sadly, there is a scarcity of such data. If history is to be truthful, painful and embarassing information should rightfully be included.

From the scant information I have studied, there seems to have been little large-scale plantation activity here. Understanding that Rockdale County is a composite of Newton and Henry Counties where slaves seem to have been more plentiful, I non the less would like to have a proper historic perspective of the county in which I reside.

A resource for antebellum life in Rockdale County is respectfully requested.
