Morality of 'heroic' separation surgeries on conjoined twins where Western medicine is imposed on non- west (albeit willingly in most cases) on the non- West- morally problematic? the majority of non- emergency separation surgeries have no health benefits they are only carried out as singletons assume life conjoined is less fulfilling and restrictive which goes against all but one of the reports by conjoined twins who remained conjoined into adulthood and because parents want the protect their children from 'locker room' taunting. However is it acceptable that these children have to go through life threatening surgery to fit into social norms- should society not instead change its attitudes?
I'd welcome opinions on the matter and recommendations of relevant academic text/ autobiographical work.
many thanks
emma
