In studying the construction of ants and their living area, I wondered why and if any one had thought of using a TBM with vertical shafts for ventalation and access to develop under ground living areas. This would be energy efficient and not waste agricultural ground in areas such as China and India. There would also be the possibility of manerial reclamation and the use of the removed material for road base or other fill needs.
This would appear to be more cost effective and energy efficient than skycrapers. Sump pumps could be used to remove waste and the spacing of vertical shafts with elevators would provide access. Areas along the sides of the tunnel could be used for electrical, plumbing and water traces. The 16 metre TBM would allow a large enough space for two story units or two sperate levels. With the idea of horizontal tunnels multiple levels could be made such as is done in the Ant colonies.
This type of construction would be secure and also be considerd for prisons and schools as well as other public buildings. Above ground train transportation that stopped at the vertical shafts for elevators could be made making these units also efficient for living and computing to work. The expansion of commercial could be in relatonship to these Mole living units as well.
