I enjoyed Vivia Ogden's stock portrayal of town biddy, Martha Perkins. A respectable, bespeckled old maid, with inherited property and a prominent place in small town society. She is the watchdog of decency and class. "No one needs a magazine with her around." She is strangely endearing sporting baloney curls, high-collared dresses and still blushing at 30.
