I am writing a book about an artist named Jean Varda who, I am almost certain, was a dancer with the dance troupe run by J.D. Fergusson's companion, Margaret Morris, during the World War I period, and perhaps for a few years afterwards. My understanding is that Varda, who was himself in Paris in the 1913-1914 period, met Ms. Morris in Paris during that period and she invited him to come to London, where she would teach him how to dance. I am trying to locate photographs of Margaret Morris dancers from that era. I have found BFI film clips of Margaret Morris dancers from as early as 1921, but there are no male dancers in the clip. I would be most grateful if anyone could refer me to any information that might lead to such photographs or film clips, or perhaps to other documentary evidence that would support an assertion that Varda danced with Margaret Morris during this period.
