IF U HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON HIMM, I WOULD APPRECIATE IF I COULD GET THAT. I DO KNOW FOR A FACT THAT HE WAS BORN ON A RESERVATION IN OAKLAHOMA AND IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Hello, I remember Cherokee Bill coming to my hometown, a small coal camp, David, in Eastern Kentucky. I was amazed by his sharpshooting, knife throwing, bullwhip, balancing acts, and more.When I told my son about him, he thought I was exaggerating. Now I have proven my story. I wrote a blog about Cherokee Bill and got two responses from people who also knew or were inquiring about him.One of the people, Mr. Edwards, sent me @ 40 pictures which I will post soon at my blogspot and write a more in-depth story of his performances. I also remember the huge dogs he always had with him. He is very memorable.

Did he marry a girl from East Kentucky? What was her name? I hear he had two sons, one of which was born when he was at David,Floyd County, Kentucky.I hope you can learn more. PS: I have read much of Jesse Stuart's work and will check for a story about Chief Cherokee Bill. Stuart is quite well known in literary circles and I actually heard him speak once in person in 1960.
My gg grandmother was from the hills of North Carolina, so I must assume her elders somehow were not in the Trail of Tears death march. I am also assuming--since the Cherokee Nation is a southeastern tribe, that your grandfather's family were on that march and ended up in Oklahoma where Bill was born. Judy, the book is "A Jesse Stuart Reader" Stories and Poems. The chapter about my grandfather is titled "The Great Cherokee Bill" and it starts on page 108 and ends on page 120. The book can not be found anywhere in Florida. I had to have this one ordered through Barnes and Noble and shipped to my home. Growing up in Ohio and Kentucky, this book was readily available in every school and local library. We do not know my grandfather's Native American name and can not find any birth record on him. He left his family and the reservation behind at 9 years old and never looked back. And he never discussed his family or life on the reservation.
