Several Greek and Roman authors wrote about the cyclopes. In Hesiod's Theogeny, the Cyclopes, Arges, Brontes, and Steropes, were the sons of Uranus and Gaia.

Both Homer and Virgil describe the Cyclops in their respective works, The Odyssey and The Aeneid.
