While it is a fact that Pope Clement ordered Edward II to round up the Templars and put them on trial, he was reluctant to to do so. ultimately heavy pressure from the Pope obliged him to do this although reluctantly. I am looking for other evidence of the king's relative leniency toward the Templars. I also would like to know more about the story that the king actually stole the Templar treasure. Someone responded that this was a half truth. What does that mean? Did he steal half the treasure, or had he only half a mind to do so? Serious answers please. I need information for a book I'm writing.
