Joseph Beuys – German sculptor and teacher. Serving in the Luftwaffe during World War II, he was shot down in the Crimea, injured and nearly frozen he was discovered by nomads who looked after him, treating his wounds with animal fat and keeping him warm by wrapping him in felt.
